Jail Ministry

Southside Baptist Church is involved in the Jail Ministry at Rusk County jail in Henderson. This ministry involves presenting a Bible Study to any and all jail inmates who desire to “come to church.”

There are volunteer men and women teachers who come at noon every Sunday and at 7:30 PM every Monday to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ to evangelize and teach Bible truths to the men and women who will come and listen. The reason we go is to be faithful to the command of Jesus to minister to those in prison--Matt. 25.

  1. There are opportunities for you to minister to these jail inmates-
Teach once a month (or more)-men present a 30-45 minute Bible lesson Women teach for an hour total. Two go in together – we follow the example of the disciples going out in pairs to witness. Most services average 12-24 men and 6-10 women (inmates).
  2. Pray for God to draw these men and women to Himself and save the unsaved and bless them by his Word. We want Jesus to be real to them!
  3. Pray for those who do go and teach/Preach – for spiritual fruit as a result of God working and changing hearts there in the jail.
  4. Pray for the Guards who tend to these inmates. Many do not know the Lord. Pray for the Christian jailers/guards/deputies -   for their witness and for their help getting the inmates to the little room where we meet- they do help.
  5. Donate your old Sunday School books and good Christian literature for the inmates to have to read in their cells. Many accept these that we bring.
  6. Pray that when the new Rusk County Jail renovations are completed, we will truly have a larger meeting room where we can have church services and have plenty of seating.

A man or woman could go to observe the first couple of times. If you feel God leading you to go and teach, please contact Rob Wells, and he will explain more.
